Abstract

The Role of Using Art Techniques for Teaching Art and Design Strategies to Primary School Children. The article presents the results of a qualitative study dealing with art and design strategies employed by pupils when drawing using different drawing techniques. The research sample consisted of six pupils aged 10 to 11. A case study was used to monitor, analyse and study the creative work of pupils while utilising different drawing techniques, i.e. drawing with charcoal, felt-tip pens and MS Paint computer software. The results obtained indicate that children’s art and design strategies differ in regard to the drawing technique employed. The strategies differed in both traditional drawing techniques (charcoal and felt-tip pen) as well as in more unusual drawing techniques (the computer). There were differences between the boys and girls, which were especially evident in traditional drawing techniques (charcoal and felttip pen) in the initial phase of creative work.
