Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The manuscript has been read and corrected by a native English speaker.
  • The manuscript is between 5,000 and 10,000 words - or a special justification for the additional length is added for the editor's consideration.
  • Written, signed permission for copyrighted material has been obtained where necessary.
  • Figures are high resolution, and an electronic version is provided; they appear exactly as they should in the journal.
  • Tables are embedded at the end of the electronic article file.
  • Reference list follows Chicago-style formatting.
  • All in-text citations are included in the reference list; all references have in-text citations.
  • End notes are grouped on a separate page.
  • The paper is prepared according to the Instructions for Authors.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Each section begins on a separate page: title page, abstract, text, appendix(es), notes, references, biographical paragraph, each table, each figure
  • Title Page includes all authors’ names, addresses, phone numbers, fax numbers, e-mail addresses, vacations or other dates when authors might be unavailable and addresses and phone numbers for those dates, and any other pertinent contact information.
  • Abstract is around 100–180 words. Keywords (5–10) are given.

Author Guidelines

We recommend that you review the About the Journal page for the journal's section policies, as well as the Author Guidelines. Authors need to register with the journal prior to submitting or, if already registered, can simply log in and begin the process.

Manuscripts: The Editors of Lexonomica welcome initial approaches from prospective authors. Acceptance of articles is subject to an anonymous refereeing process. Articles submitted to Lexonomica should be original contributions and should not be under consideration for any other publications at the same time. If another version of the article is under consideration by another publication, or has been, or will be published elsewhere, authors should clearly indicate this at the time of submission. Articles should be written on A4/Letter paper, double-spaced and with sample margins. The text, including the notes, references, illustrations, tables etc. should be in a »Garamond« font. All pages (including those containing only diagrams and tables) should be numbered consecutively. There is no standard length for the articles but 5,000–10,000 words (including notes and references) is a useful target. The articles should begin with indented and italicised summary of around 100–180 words, which should describe the main arguments and conclusions of the article. The author should provide brief bibliographical details including affiliation and full correspondence address, research interest and recent publications.

Style: Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts conform to the Journal’s style and are in good language. Minimal use of styles and formatting is recommended. Headings and sub-headings should be marked in a decimal classification style (e.g. 1, 1.1, 1.1.1, 1.1.1.1) to the depth of no more then four units. Long quotations in the text of more lines should be indented. Short quotations should be inside quotes. Short quotations inside inside quotes should be inside inverted commas. Foreign words should be in italics; if used in brackets or quotes they should not be italicised. Authors are advised not to use bolding in the text and notes. The abbreviations should be used correspondingly (i.e., e.g., viz., etc.). Pictures, tables, diagrams and illustrations in the text should be correspondingly marked (title and source, if appropriate) and in a format permitting the adjustment of size.

References: The authors should follow The Chicago Manual of Style (15th or later edition) for quotations and references.

The names and e-mail addresses entered in the website of the University of Maribor Press and the Lexonomica will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of the press and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party. User data will never be distributed without the explicit permission of the user and, upon request, a user's email address is removed from mailing lists. All data held about the user will be made available to the user upon request.
