Pristop življenjskih zgodb do iskanja zlata in kmetovanja na meji v brazilski Amazoniji
Povzetek
V nasprotju z običajno brezosebno makroekonomsko in sociološko obravnavo razvojnih ciklov v Amazoniji, ki v najboljšem primeru ponujajo splošnosti o "socialnih akterjih", označenih kot "kmetje", "rancherji" in "transnacionalne korporacije", ki predstavljajo abstraktne kategorije dela in globaliziranega kapitala, je tukaj ponujen človeški obraz procesov na meji. Socialna in ekonomska trajnost nihanja med iskanjem zlata in družinskim kmetovanjem na meji je ocenjena skozi oči tistih, ki so to doživeli, s čimer je ustvarjen neromantičen portret iskanja zlata v zahodnem Pará med zlatokopno mrzlico 1961-1990, kot tudi današnjega kmetovanja na meji. Ekonomska izvora in pretekla kakovost življenja tistih, ki so zapustili lokalne kmetije ali prišli iz oddaljenih ruralnih območij osiromašenega Maranhão, so primerjani in postavljeni v nasprotje z njihovim prehodom skozi degradirajoče življenjske pogoje iskanja zlata in končno z njihovim trenutnim položajem kot borbeni, a neodvisni kmetje na meji v občinah Itaituba in Santarém.
