Philosophy of Artistic Style – The Contribution of Kendall Walton
Keywords:
philosophy of art, theory of style, Kendall Walton, artistic style, performanceAbstract
This article deals with the philosophy of art, in general, and with the theories of style in particular. Walton claims that the bearer of artistic style is the creative process. In determining the style of an artwork, the key role is played only by the process of creation, and almost no role is assigned to the final product, the artwork itself. We raised the question whether a mere insight into the genesis of artwork is really sufficient, or whether its visual characteristics are indeed the key element for ascribing stylistic characteristics.
