Abstract

Modern business is requiring more and more business skills and ideas from Chief In- formation Officers (CIOs) in terms of how to use IT solutions to help companies achieve better and more efficient operations. Information technology is no longer just a support function; it can be used alone or in conjunction with other business proces- ses in the company to create value. Modern CIOs need to understand where and how IT can contribute to the improvement of the company and how to integrate it into achieving the company’s strategic goals. This article analyses the CIO pheno- menon and changes reported in studies.

Dejan Pecko is a marketing graduate student who earned his bachelor of science in marketing at the University of Maribor, Faculty of Economics and Business after completing his research entitled The importance of brands management in professional sport. He also completed his master's degree in the field of informati- on systems and e-business management with the research Transformation of Chief Information Officer Roles in Organisations. He is currently employed in the private sector, where he successfully applies the knowledge acquired during his studies.

Samo Bobek

Samo Bobek is a professor of e-business at the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Maribor. He teaches undergraduate, master’s-level, and doctoral courses in the areas of e-business and information management. His research areas include strategic information systems management, e-business, and business solutions. He has published several books and books chapters, and his bibliography includes more than 200 articles, conference papers, and research reports. He is the chair of the E-Business Department.

Simona Sternad Zabukovšek is an assistant professor of e-business at the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Maribor. Her research areas include business process reengineering, ERP and e-business solutions, and the implementation and maintenance of ERP solutions. Her bibliography includes more than 70 articles, conference papers, book chapters, and research reports. She teaches several courses at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels in the areas of e-business and information management.
