Potencialna vloga probiotikov za trajnost na indijskem podeželju

Povzetek

Probiotiki (grško "za življenje") so znani in raziskani že več kot stoletje. Metchnikoffovo pionirsko delo je bilo v 50. letih prejšnjega stoletja spremenjeno v komercialno prakso in od takrat so bile opisane številne koristi probiotikov. Danes so že našli svoje mesto kot prehransko dopolnilo in preventivno ali zdravilno zdravilo. Izraz probiotik opisuje različne mikroorganizme, ki se lahko naselijo v gostitelja in nanj vplivajo na izboljšanje zdravja. Ker gre za naraven in primerljivo dostopen izdelek tudi za ljudi z nizkimi dohodki, bi ga lahko uvedli v prehrano ljudi, ki živijo na indijskem podeželju. Največji oviri za to sta izobraževanje o njihovi uporabi in tehnologija za njihovo pripravo v primerni obliki za domačo uporabo. Redna uporaba bi lahko izboljšala kakovost življenja ter zmanjšala odvisnost od zdravil in stroškov zdravljenja.
