Traditional music is a vital component of intangible cultural heritage and identity, yet it is increasingly absent from its original, spontaneous contexts. This paper examines the role of music education in preserving traditional music. An analysis of N=75 papers from HRČAK, the Portal of Croatian scientific and professional journals, shows that nearly one-third address musical heritage, traditional and folk music, interculturalism, and world music in teaching. Music education is therefore recognized as a key environment for transmitting, preserving, and developing students’ cultural identity and intercultural competences.
