Abstract

Non Arbitrariness of Composition (NAOC) principle claims that it is implausible to posit a multitude of disconnected and unsystematic compositional facts that are individually unexplainable. Here is a meta-compositional assignment: start with a list of compositional facts and consider several ways to organize them. The question then is which way of organizing compositional facts is the most appropriate. It turns out that the result is compatible with construal of truth as indirect correspondence, and that this is in turn compatible with irrealism in respect to the entities posited and with blobjectivism as an overall metaphysical perspective. NAOC cannot be properly extended to cover atomistic facts or entities, although these certainly are incompatible with it. NAOC prefers a non-tractable background as its starting compositional principle.
