Deabsurdization of “Art” with a New View (New Definition and Theory of Art)
Keywords:
Meno's paradox, function of art, theories of art, formalism, conceptualism, formalistic conceptualismAbstract
In this article we are trying to defend the thesis, that our present understanding of art is at the point, in which the concept of “art” is actually absurd. Why? Because art is captured by Meno's paradox. Solution? New point of view on “art”. This new view, we represent in this article. With this new view will art (again) get very important role. But to reach this new view on art, we will have to confront with three essential subjects in philosophy of art. In the first part we will occupy ourselves with the most essential question: what kind of concept is art? Our answer will be that kind that we will also have to answer on the question, what function does art have. In the second part we will occupy ourselves with question: how art should be valued? Just a hint: in two ways. And in the last, third part we will occupy ourselves with question: what theory of art is adequate/correct? We will show, that all so-far-known theories of art are wrong, but however we think, that there are two theories, which have a good basis to develop adequate/correct theory of art. We will call this combination of two theories “formalistic conceptualism.”
