Only they leafed through the notes and notices and sent the calculated data to Vienna for printing by the state printing house. Re-examining these sources offers a whole new perspective on the censuses in question. The purpose of the article is to present the biggest differences between the established truths and the view from this new angle.
Ivica Pletikosić Copyright (c) 2024 Ivica Pletikosić https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2024-07-08 2024-07-08 19 2 1 16 10.18690/rg.19.2.4331 Al-Biruni's Enduring Contributions to Cartographic Science https://journals.um.si/index.php/geography/article/view/3746
This paper commemorates the 1050th anniversary of Abu Rayhan Al-Biruni and delves into his unparalleled contributions to the geosciences and cartography within the context of the Islamic Golden Age. Al-Biruni's work, characterized by its interdisciplinary approach and meticulous methodology, has not only advanced the field of geography but also connected diverse cultural perspectives. By examining Al-Biruni's groundbreaking contributions, this study highlights his innovative methods for measuring the Earth's radius, his unique cartographic representations, and his synthesis of knowledge from various civilizations. Focusing on Al-Biruni's contributions from both a geographical and educational perspective, we illuminate his timeless impact on the discipline and provide insights that are of central importance to contemporary geography researchers and educators. This study underscores the importance of integrating Al-Biruni's interdisciplinary methods, critical thinking, and cross-cultural analyses into modern geographical education, thereby enriching the academic exploration of geography and fostering a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of global cultures and scientific advancements.
Young-Jin Ahn Zuhriddin Juraev Copyright (c) 2024 Young-Jin Ahn, Zuhriddin Juraev https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2024-06-20 2024-06-20 19 2 17 36 10.18690/rg.19.2.3746 River flows as drivers of population distribution and settlement patterns in Bosnia and Herzegovina: a GIS-based analysis https://journals.um.si/index.php/geography/article/view/4318
This paper analyzes the distribution and size structure of settlements along the primary river courses of Bosnia and Herzegovina, considering both hypsometry and socioeconomic dimensions of space, which contribute to demographic transformations. Using GIS tools, an analysis was conducted on the number of settlements according to hypsometric levels in the river basins of the Black and Adriatic Seas, alongside demographic changes during the latest intercensal period. Spatial analysis methods in GIS enabled the identification of population changes, settlement sizes, and spatial distribution patterns. Analysis of buffer zones within 5 km of river streams reveals a predominant spatial clustering of settlements along these waterways, while a fragmentation of settlement networks is observed farther away from the main streams.
Aida Korjenić Amina Sivac Aida Avdić Copyright (c) 2024 Aida Korjenić, Amina Sivac, Aida Avdić https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2024-07-13 2024-07-13 19 2 37 60 10.18690/rg.19.2.4318 The production process and organization of the international cultural event: European Theatre Night in Bosnia and Herzegovina https://journals.um.si/index.php/geography/article/view/3669
The European Theatre Night is a one-day event that takes place every year in European countries, and since 2010, Bosnia and Herzegovina has also participated. The program includes theatre performances and other forms of performing arts. The European Theatre Night is the largest and most extensive theatrical manifestation and one of the most significant cultural manifestations in post-war Bosnia and Herzegovina. The work mainly deals with the analysis of this manifestation, that is, the main actors of the organization and cooperation, artistic institutions in which various theatre institutions, organizations and artists participate.
Senada Nezirović Denis Krdžalić Lejla Žunić Copyright (c) 2024 Senada Nezirović, Denis Krdžalić, Lejla Žunić https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2024-09-06 2024-09-06 19 2 61 78 10.18690/rg.19.2.3669 Eateries and eating outside of home in Maribor https://journals.um.si/index.php/geography/article/view/4435
The paper deals with eateries and eating habits among guests of some restaurants in Maribor. This study investigates the hierarchy of the 16 cities that make up the regional urban system of Dobrogea, as well as the spatial interaction between them. To achieve these goals, several models were used, such as those of Zipf, Beckman, and Reilly-Converse, and the Jefferson index. The results of the study indicate the urban primacy (hypertophy) of the largest city in the territory located between the Danube and the Black Sea, Constanța, as well as the macrocephaly of its regional urban system. Zipf's law shows the incoherence, the imbalance of the urban system and divides its cities into plethoric cities and deficit cities. The same characteristics of the urban system are also confirmed by Beckman's law. By applying the Reilly-Converse law, the zone of influence of the city of Constanța was delimited, almost 38% of the entire area of the Dobrogea region.
Gheorghe Matei Copyright (c) 2024 Gheorghe Matei https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2024-09-30 2024-09-30 19 2 93 116 10.18690/rg.19.2.4560 Reports in 2024 https://journals.um.si/index.php/geography/article/view/4640 Tadej Kapun Danijel Davidović Uroš Horvat Peter Kumer Eva Konečnik Kotnik Aleksej Muhić Ana Vovk Zala Črep Tilen Pasarič Nejc Nahtigal Copyright (c) 2024 Tadej Kapun, Danijel Davidović, Uroš Horvat, Peter Kumer, Eva Konečnik Kotnik, Aleksej Muhić, Ana Vovk, Zala Črep, Tilen Pasarič, Nejc Nahtigal https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2024-12-31 2024-12-31 19 2 123 138 10.18690/rg.19.2.4640 Croatian geographer and academician Dragutin Feletar (1941-2023) https://journals.um.si/index.php/geography/article/view/4698 Hrvoje Petrić Copyright (c) 2024 Hrvoje Petrić https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 2024-10-05 2024-10-05 19 2 117 122 10.18690/rg.19.2.4698
